Our Therapist Training Program was designed to benefit conditionally and fully licensed therapists who are new to private practice and want a supportive environment to grow and nurture their therapeutic skills. Our cohorts are typically between 8-12 trainees and follow an academic calendar.

At WellSpace, we believe it is important to empower therapists to learn how to work with the realities of owning a private practice, and giving therapists opportunities to specialize in a theoretical orientation and presenting problem or population.

What does WellSpace Training Program provide?

Formal didactic training

These monthly modules will provide in-depth training in a particular area.  These seminars will be developmentally, clinically and professionally relevant to training needs. The modules will be guided through the lenses of multiculturalism, laws and ethics and social justice.

Team-building

Professional facilitated Team Building workshop to introduce staff and trainees and increase self-awareness and goals for a collaborative training experience.

Peer supervision

Trainees meet with their supervisor and peers monthly to discuss clinical cases and to participate in facilitated peer supervision. This time may also be used to discuss training issues, personal development, group processing and self-care. Individual Supervision will be provided weekly by senior clinical staff. Documentation supervision and training will also be provided at various points throughout the year. A covering clinician will be available in cases of planned or unplanned absences.

Individual supervision

Each trainee will be paired with a Supervisor- taking into account compatibility, specialty and licensure requirements and will complete 1:1 hourly supervision weekly.

Direct service & clinical practice

Each trainee will be expected to maintain a caseload of 18-20 clients per week. Each trainee will be expected to establish clients in the Wellspace system, provide high quality therapeutic interventions, complete required paperwork and insurance requirements in a timely manner.

Practice operations and administrative tasks

Each trainee will participate in tasks associated with practice management including insurance verification, payment collection, scheduling and documentation.

Professional Identity and development

Assisting the fellows in navigating their professional development is paramount to the success of this program. Wellspace Maine is dedicated to fostering goal setting, cultivating the Fellows professional identity, expanding each Fellow’s knowledge base and imparting best practices in behavioral health.
