Devon Stockmayer LMSW-CC

WellSpace Clinician (She/Her)

Devon is a conditionally-licensed clinical social worker who centers curiosity and warmth in the therapeutic relationship. Informed by a background in creative writing and narrative medicine, she views therapy as a space to discover preferred stories of self and to tease out how our individual narratives entangle with others’.

For who: children (elementary-age), late adolescents, young adults and adults. Devon offers psychotherapy services to those who may be struggling with anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and life transitions.

Specialization / Training / Background:

Devon has experience in a variety of community based-social work roles related to housing insecurity, trafficking/sexual violence, and infant/early childhood mental health and development. Additionally, Devon holds a Master’s in Narrative Medicine, a multidisciplinary field that views illness and health through the lens of story.

Experience In Area of: Previously, Devon provided individual and family therapy to young people with emerging psychotic disorders and co-occurring challenges. She has worked in non-clinical settings with children for 10+ years, and in pediatric spaces, where she operates through a two-generation, whole family approach to care.

Approach:

Devon views therapy as a space for the exchange of stories, where the therapist primarily acts as a witness and a guide. She supports folks in identifying the threads of story–both internally and externally woven–that make up their identity. We will work together to tease out the connections between these narratives, holding space for stories that linger, uninvited, and embracing the ones that feel aligned.

While drawing from parts of CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy, Devon’s approach is primarily humanistic. In work with children, she believes in a collaborative, whole-family approach. There, she draws from CBT, DBT, play and art therapy methods, as well as Trauma-Focused CBT.

Devon believes deeply in the importance of movement and engagement with the natural world as tools for wellness. Outside of work, she can often be found on a run or an outdoor adventure with her border collie mix, Obie.
